Mauritius is renowned for its white sands and wonderful climate, but there’s no need to resign yourself to sunbathing alone if you’re planning a holiday to the resort of Flic en Flac. This once sleepy fishing village has become a popular holiday hotspot, ideal for getting active in the water.

Flic en Flac’s calm lagoon is the ideal place for a refreshing dip when you decide it’s time to escape the heat, and you’ll be grateful for the opportunity considering Mauritius’s tropical climate. Temperatures here range from 20 degrees C and above in winter to 32 degrees C in summer.
As well as enjoying a simple swim in the water off the beach at Flic en Flac, you can also take an excursion further out on the sea aboard a catamaran that will transport you over the Indian Ocean to Tamarin Bay – a habitat for a variety of species of dolphin.
Bottlenose and spinner dolphins are both known to frequent the waters around the bay, and you might get to see them swimming alongside the boat as you travel. You may also have the opportunity to get into the water here and swim with the dolphins if they come close enough. As part of an organised excursion, you’ll often get to tuck into a barbecue lunch onboard the boat before returning to the main resort.
Snorkelling and diving
There is plenty of marine life to be found in the waters around Flic en Flac aside from the dolphins, and if you decide to don a snorkel you’ll have a good chance of seeing some of the creatures that call the area home.
